The first Italian Cycle Tourism Fair

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March 2020, BASE Milano hosts the first Cycle Tourism Fair in Italy, organized by Bikenomist, featuring exhibitors, talks, and travel stories on two wheels.

On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March 2020, Bikenomist, a Milan-based company specializing in bicycle communication, organizes the first Italian fair dedicated to cycle tourism and traveling by bicycle at BASE Milano (Via Bergognone 34, Milan), a creative hub in the heart of Milan’s design district.

With free entry, requiring online or on-site registration, the Cycle Tourism Fair is aimed at families, enthusiasts, adventurers, sportspeople interested in two-wheeled trips, and even those curious to try this travel style for the first time.
The Cycle Tourism Fair serves as a meeting point between the demand and supply of cycling experiences: from short excursions to multi-day trips, family-friendly journeys to adventurous tours for seasoned cycle travelers, as well as sports activities for those who want to train while exploring the culture of the regions from the saddle.

In addition to the exhibition area, featuring stands dedicated to tour operators, local tourism boards, destinations, cities, and international organizations active in the sector, the Cycle Tourism Fair will also host Bikeitalia Talks. These include workshops, presentations on travel mechanics, informational sessions, and cycling travel stories, offering visitors the opportunity to imagine and tailor a customized travel experience on two wheels.
For the occasion, the ARDA (A Ritmo D’Acque) project will be unveiled to the public. This initiative includes cycling routes starting from BASE Milano and exploring the region along the canals and major points of interest, enhanced by multimedia artistic installations.

“Italy is a country to savor at the right pace and with the right attention,” says Paolo Pinzuti, CEO of Bikenomist and organizer of the fair. “With the Cycle Tourism Fair, we wanted to create a catalog of experiences and beauty for everyone who wishes to pedal through new places, away from traffic, without needing to improvise.”

What is Cycle Tourism?

Cycle tourism is a form of active travel that involves journeying by bicycle. It can be enjoyed on short day trips or extended periods with luggage, staying in tents or accommodations. Travelers may use bicycles as the sole means of transportation or combine them with trains, buses, or logistical support from specialized agencies.
There are numerous forms of cycle tourism, catering to families, individuals, or groups, with accessible routes suitable for everyone or more adventurous destinations. Cycle tourism is not seasonal, allows for custom itineraries in natural settings away from the crowds, and can be an economical way to travel.

Exhibitors and Sponsors

A total of 36 exhibitors from Italy and around the world have chosen to participate in the Cycle Tourism Fair.
Tour operators, local tourism boards, destinations, and cities will showcase their cycling-friendly offerings at BASE Milano. Visitors can discover new destinations for their next cycling holidays, book travel packages, and access various services for bicycle tourists.

Sponsors include destinations such as Catalonia, Gran Canaria, Valtellina, Green Karst (Slovenia), and Terres Monviso, alongside tourism operators Jonas and Cyclando, and bicycle brand Shimano.
