On Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, 2020, BASE Milano will host the first Cycle Tourism Show in Italy.
The first edition of the Cycle Tourism Show has received the patronage of ENIT Italy – the National Tourism Agency. This recognition was granted in light of the “high tourist value of the initiative,” as stated in the endorsement signed by President Giorgio Palmucci. The event will take place on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, 2020, at BASE Milano, a creative hub in the heart of Milan’s design district. This venue will provide ample space for the various activities that will enliven the two-day event dedicated to traveling by bicycle in all its forms.
Cycle tourism is a growing sector and represents an important economic driver for our country. According to data from a study by Unioncamere and Legambiente, the sector accounts for 8.4% of the total national tourism movement in Italy, with 77.6 million overnight stays. Cycle tourists increased by 41% over five years, from 2013 to 2018, and today generate an economic value of €7.6 billion per year.
The Cycle Tourism Show aims to serve as a meeting and exploration point for easy bicycle holidays tailored to families, two-wheeled adventures for cycle travelers, and sports activities for those who want to train while discovering the culture of territories seen from the saddle. “With the Cycle Tourism Show, we wanted to create a catalog of experiences and beauty for everyone who wants to cycle in new places, away from traffic, but without having to improvise,” says Paolo Pinzuti, CEO of Bikenomist and organizer of the Show.
The exhibition space will provide selected tour operators and organizations active in the sector with the opportunity to present their offerings, including itineraries and services for bicycle tourists. The Show will be the ideal place to discover the destination for your next cycling holiday, plan trips, and gather all the necessary information to embark on a bicycle journey to the most beautiful and bike-friendly destinations.
In addition to the exhibition space, the Show will also host the Bikeitalia Talks: a series of training workshops, informative presentations, and cycle travel stories, giving visitors the chance to craft a tailored experience dedicated to bicycle travel. During the Cycle Tourism Show, the ARDA (A Ritmo D’Acque) project will be presented to the public. This series of bicycle itineraries, starting from BASE Milano, will explore the territory along the Navigli canals and major points of interest, highlighted and narrated through multimedia artistic installations.
The Cycle Tourism Show is organized by Bikenomist srl, a Milan-based company specializing in bicycle communication, in collaboration with BASE Milano as part of the “ARDA – A Ritmo D’Acque” project, and under the patronage of ENIT Italy – the National Tourism Agency, the Municipality of Milan, and FIAB Onlus (the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation). The media partner for the initiative is Bikeitalia.it, the most-read Italian-language magazine on bicycles.
The main sponsor of this first edition is VisitDenmark, the Danish tourism office, a country renowned for its bike-friendliness and extensive offerings for two-wheeled travelers.
